I am from Lancashire, England- a landscape of Victorian Gothicka, Wuthering Heights type moor-land & dark legends. My childhood was full of Faerie & ghost stories, ancient myth & a love of the history of my homeland. As an adult I became obsessed with the Pre-Raphaelites & Victorian Romantics, each town & city around me holding collections of these symbolist, jewel-like treasures. And so I was often found in Manchester City Art Gallery gazing lovingly at the masterpieces of Waterhouse…or Arthur Hughes…reverently lifting tapestries that covered the cases holding palettes & brushes of Rosetti…or at the Lady Lever Gallery in Liverpool with its Millais, Holman-Hunts & Maddox Browns. I also became passionate about Art Nouveau, its macabre sensuality appealing to my love of dark Faerietale, & so I soaked up the art of Lalique, Morris, Burne-Jones, Mucha, Gaudi. These influences enhanced my other great love- British folklore & legend... be it Arthurian, Faerie lore, Celtic or fire-side tales stretching back across time. My apprenticeship was a long one, covering master-pattern making, lost wax casting, jewellery design from concept to finished product & antique jewellery reproduction. On completion of this I was left todevelop my artistic identity. Mine is highly sculptural & mythological. All the creatures & images that ‘lived’ in my mind could become reality…I started letting all the Faeries, boggarts, elves, woodwose, unicorns & blessed damozels out! Home is the edge of Dartmoor with my wonderful artist & folkorist husband Marc Potts... my gallery, Ethera, is in Dartmouth, where I create alongside my brilliantly talented Mum & Dad, also artisan jewellers & artists! If you're ever here in magical Devon, why not call in for a chat? Meantime... enjoy my art here, I love creating it... hope you love it too!
